City of San Leandro

Energy Solutions

In early 2016, San Leandro partnered with Climatec to modernize existing infrastructure and move toward sustainability goals set forth by its City Council in a Climate Action Plan (CAP). The resulting program addressed energy and water infrastructure needs and proposed a feasible funding plan. Climatec also provided a savings guarantee that would cover total program costs. And with a $2 million grant from the California Energy Commission, the City also improved its Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP), highlighted by a 1-megawatt solar power system.

The City has since met nearly half of its CAP goals and forged a path as a globally recognized “Smart City” with enhanced livability and connectivity. Today, San Leandro continues improving fiscal stability with strategic reductions in energy and water usage.

Hear from our customers

“
This project solidifies San Leandro’s reputation as a statewide leader in taking action to reduce our energy consumption.”
Pauline Russo Cutter, San Leandro Mayor

Project Solution

In addition to the solar installation at WPCP, the program also includes new high-efficiency heating and cooling equipment, building automation systems and interior and exterior LED lighting modernizations. At San Leandro parks, newly installed weather-based irrigation controls prevent water waste and improve staff efficiency.

Lastly, Climatec converted City streetlights to LED light modernizations equipped with monitoring controls, dimming controls and a wireless smart city mesh network. In addition to substantially reducing energy consumption and improving community safety, this technology prepares the City to expand their network by integrating air quality sensors, parking systems and other smart city technologies in the near future.
