AB-841 Grant
  Funding

According to the Government Accountability Office (2020), an estimated 41% of schools–nearly 36,000 nationwide–desperately need new heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) technology.

In September 2020, Governor Gavin Newsom passed the Healthy Schools, Healthy Air, Healthy Recovery Bill (AB-841), an energy efficiency stimulus program offering millions in grant funding to schools to address this problem. In 2021, the state is awarding AB-841 funds to school districts to:

  • Improve HVAC technology for greater indoor air quality and less chance of COVID-19 spreading on school grounds
  • Replace non-compliant water infrastructure with modernized fixtures and appliances that conserve water
  • Add electric vehicle charging stations to alleviate pressure on California’s electric grid and reduce greenhouse gas emissions
