Holtville Unified School District

Energy Solutions

Holtville Unified School District (HUSD) is located in Holtville, a rural City in Imperial County that’s approximately 10 miles east of El Centro. The District serves more than 1,500 students across its two elementary schools, middle school, high school, continuation high school and adult education program.

In 2017, HUSD and several other small local districts in Imperial County selected Climatec through a joint competitive RFP process for design/build energy services. The goals of the RFP were to take advantage of alternative funding solutions, renew energy infrastructure and reduce inefficiencies in how local districts operate facilities.

Hear from our customers

“
The turnkey approach allowed us to get projects implemented and access grant funding in a way that we simply could not have done on our own. Partnering with Climatec allowed Holtville and many other local school districts to do more with less.”
J.P. Wells, Assistant Superintendent of Business Services

Project Solution

HUSD pursued districtwide modernizations of antiquated heating & cooling equipment and interior & exterior lighting systems. The infrastructure also features smart integrations, such as Wi-Fi-based building automation systems, economizers, occupancy sensors and dimming controls for the LED.

Project Results

The improvements enhanced the comfort and safety of HUSD’s learning environment especially as it relates to the indoor air quality from modernized HVAC. The program also allowed the District to address budget pressure in two ways: 1) reduced General Fund expenditures by lowering utility & maintenance costs and 2) relieved capital budget pressure by taking advantage of nearly $600k in State grant funds.\

The District is on track to reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions by nearly 500 metric tons annually, which equates to 97 less cars on the road, 70 Holtville homes powered and almost 14,000 trees preserved from deforestation.
